Et Cornhole-sæt kan i stigende grad findes rundt om hjørnet. Sidste sommer så jeg mange mennesker fra ung til gammel spille Bean Bag Toss-spillet eller "Baggo" i parker, haver, sportsklubber og fester! Cornhole var et af de få spil, der stadig blev betragtet som Corona-sikker. Cornhole vinder hurtigt popularitet i Holland og andre dele af Europa, og det samme spørgsmål bliver ofte stillet efter et intenst og konkurrencepræget spil: "Hvor kommer Cornhole egentlig fra?" Som udgangspunkt for Cornhole i Holland var det vores opgave at dykke længere ned i dette!
Roots of Cornhole
For at opdage Cornholes rødder er vi nødt til at tage på en oversøisk tur til USA. Hvis der er en by, der er helt under fortryllelsen af Cornhole, er det Cincinnati, der ligger i staten Ohio. Det er derfor ikke overraskende, at byen hævder at være hjemmet for spillet Cornhole. Byen hævder at være den første, hvor indbyggerne fyldte poser med majskerner og forsøgte at smide dem i huller.
Cincinnati står over for konkurrence fra det amerikanske midtvest. Cornhole er uhyre populær i staten Kentucky. Nu er en del af den midtvestlige kultur historien om pioneren Jebediah McGillicuddy, der siges at have spillet den første version af "Baggo" i Kentuckys karakteristiske bjerge, hvorefter spillet spredte sig.
Selvfølgelig var pionererne fra Cincinnati og Kentucky ikke de første indbyggere i det amerikanske landskab. Legenden fortæller historien om ressourcestærke indianere, der boede i Illinois. De ville lave poser af tørrede blærer (Ja, blærer) og fylde dem med majskerner og derefter lege konkurrencedygtigt med dem. Tysk indflydelse på Cornhole
En alternativ forklaring bringer os meget tættere på hjemmet og på vores venlige tyske naboer! Amerika er præget af gigantiske landbrugslandskaber, og disse landmænd kommer traditionelt ofte fra vores tyske naboer. Historien fortæller, at den tyske pioner Matthias Kuepermann så børn kaste sten i huller lavet i jorden. Dette gav manden ideen til at designe tasker og træplader for sikkerheden. Spillet ville da være blevet meget populært i, ja: Cincinnati. Foreløbig to point til pionererne fra Cincinnati.
Alligevel er der ud over historier, der har overlevet generationer, også hårde beviser for Cornholes tidlige rødder i USA. I 1883 ansøgte Heyliger de Windt om patent på "Parlor Quoits". I dette spil var der et firkantet hul i stedet for et rundt hul på brættet. Dette spil var det første indspillede spil, hvor poser fyldt med majskerner blev smidt til en træplade med et hul i.
Cornhole forbliver populært til enhver tid
Efter et dyk ned i Cornholes historie er spørgsmålet stadig tilbage, hvor præcis det vanedannende Bean Bag-spil kom fra. Ligesom landbruget opstod Cornhole sandsynligvis flere steder på samme tid, selvom dens oprindelse næsten helt sikkert er i USA. Det, der er mindst lige så vigtigt, er, hvad de forskellige lokationer har til fælles, og det er: god mad, drikkevarer, familie, venner og en meget hyggelig stund.
